Inter Miami have revealed that the eastern stand of their new stadium will be named after Lionel Messi.
It aims to honour the Argentine forward whilst he remains on the club's playing roster.
The Florida-based MLS outfit confirmed on Friday that the "Leo Messi Stand" will be formally presented to supporters when Miami host Austin FC on April 4, marking the team's inaugural fixture at the Nu Stadium.
According to the club, the eight-time Ballon d'Or recipient represents "a rare and unique case" in global sport, becoming one of few athletes to receive such recognition at their home ground during their active career.

In a statement, the club explained their reasoning for the tribute.
Inter Miami said: "Recognising someone is not always about closing a chapter. Sometimes it is about realising you are witnessing something unique."
Miami emphasised that this honour differs from conventional tributes, which typically draw upon nostalgia and memory.
Instead, the club described the gesture as emerging from the present moment and the emotions supporters experience whenever the 38-year-old takes to the pitch.

This marks the second occasion in recent times that Messi has received such recognition.
Newell's Old Boys also named a stand after him in June 2025, the Argentine club where he developed as a youngster.
The Leo Messi Stand comprises sections 117-121 on the lower tier and 217-223 in the upper bowl, located along the eastern side of the venue.
The new ground, officially known as Miami Freedom Park following a naming rights agreement with Nubank announced earlier this month, boasts a capacity of 26,700 spectators.

It represents a significant upgrade from the club's previous home at Chase Bank Stadium, which held 21,550 fans and was located approximately 33 miles from the new site.
Miami, who entered MLS in 2020, confirmed their relocation to the purpose-built facility in 2024.

He has since established himself as the club's all-time leading scorer with 82 goals, whilst also topping the assists chart with 53.

The World Cup-winning captain secured a contract extension through 2028 in April.
It follows remarkable success, including the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield, and the 2025 MLS Cup.
Last season, he became the first player in league history to claim consecutive MVP honours, adding to his inaugural award from the previous campaign.
Miami currently sit third in the Eastern Conference after five matches, trailing the leaders by three points.
