Liam Rosenior won't ever get what Mikel Arteta has ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea clash

The two teams will do battle at the Emirates Stadium today

When Liam Rosenior first arrived at Chelsea last month, results immediately improved with the Blues appearing unshackled and free following the abrupt, dramatic departure of Enzo Maresca.

However, as the Blues prepare to face Arsenal in a crunch showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, they've started to stutter domestically under their young manager with the club's hopes of Champions League football next season hanging in the balance.

Because for all the money they've spent in recent years, the west London giants remain far behind their rivals.

Arsenal, should they reign supreme on home soil, will move 19 points clear of Rosenior's men. They will also be another week close to a first league crown since the days of Arsene Wenger back in 2004.

Consecutive league draws have sparked concerns at Chelsea when it comes to their European aspirations. They brought in Rosenior with a place in the top five within their sights. As things stand, however, Manchester United and Liverpool appear set to occupy those slots come the end of the campaign.

Over at Arsenal, and the Gunners are reaping the rewards of showing patience with Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard's own stint in the capital started difficulty, with the club only managing to finish eighth after he replaced Unai Emery in 2019. For a club of their size and stature, that was seen as nothing short of unacceptable.

There has been constant evolution in the time since, however. After teething problems, they were fifth in the 2020/21 season. Since then, they've not finished below second.

It has taken years for them to get to this point. Arteta started by selling A-listers such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil. He was effectively given the keys to the entire kingdom and has recruited shewdly ever since.

He is given total power at Arsenal. When it comes to Chelsea, however, things are drastically different.

Recruitment is managed a collaborative, five-strong sporting leadership Team, which includes co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, along with Joe Shields, Sam Jewell and Dave Fallows.

They, effectively, control who the Blues sign. Managers will have their say, of course, but the higher-ups are the ones ultimately calling the shots.

Rosenior won't ever get that luxury. History shows that shortcomings at Chelsea are rarely tolerated. Losing to Arsenal, for the third time, would be a crushing blow.

That's one thing Todd Boehly appears to have learnt from Roman Abramovich: Being trigger-happy.

Thomas Tuchel didn't have too long to impress the American when Clearlake Capital purchased the Blues from Abramovich in 2022. Their alliance lasted just months, with the German sacked despite steering them to Champions League glory the previous year.

Then came Graham Potter, who was a disaster from start to finish. His interim successor, Frank Lampard, was similarly poor and was shocked at the culture of the dressing room, which contrasted to his own days at the club as a player.

Mauricio Pochettino lasted just a year, with the Argentine unhappy at the club's recruitment policy. Maresca claimed silverware but he, too, had grievances about the system put in place and how it impacted his own power.

As Arsenal and Chelsea prepare for battle today, defeat would be a huge blow for Rosenior.

For Arteta and the Gunners, however, it would be yet more evidence that hard work, and the Spaniard's own input, is paying off.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, meanwhile, Chelsea hero Frank Sinclair revealed what the Blues must do in order to become genuine title challengers.

"Firstly keep hold of your top players like Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, whilst building a good squad to compete for a title challenge," he said in association with Gambling.com, where users find the best Online UK Casino bonuses.

"You must have two top players in each position to become title challengers, also a top striker who is capable of 10 or more goals a season. There's plenty of room for Chelsea to improve."
