Kate Abdo delivered a brilliant opening monologue to CBS Sport's Champions League coverage on Wednesday where she labelled Jamie Carragher as an "annoying family member".

The Liverpool icon caused outrage and left viewers squirming during CBS Sport's coverage of Arsenal's penalty shoot-out win over Porto.

During a segment of the show, Carragher wore an Arsenal jersey and stated that both Thierry Henry and Abdo would have to wear the shirt next.

Abdo rejected the idea, insisting she was "loyal" which sparked a bizarre response from Carragher live on air.

"You're not loyal to Malik," Carragher replied, which left Abdo visibly stunned.

"What? How can you even say that?!" Abdo asked.

The incident caused a stir online with viewers wondering how Abdo and Carragher's onscreen relationship would be affected.

But Abdo kept it professional at the start of CBS Sport's Champions League coverage on Wednesday night and likened her co-hosts - including Carragher - to three brothers.

The presenter admitted to "loving and accepting" Carragher, but not before she got a few digs in at the former Liverpool star's expense.

Abdo started: "After our road trip to the Emirates, we are back in our Champions League studio.

"This group, we have been together for three-and-a-half years, I grew up with a brother and I feel like I have gained three more here.

"Thierry Henry, of course, the golden child. He could do no wrong, always says the right thing, sets the example for the rest of us.

"Intimidating? Yes, he can be, but he is the big brother we all look up to.

"Then there is the middle child, Jamie Carragher, a chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention.

"Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely.

"But does he apologise? Yes he does. But we all have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept.

"And then there's little bro.

"Loud but lovable, Micah Richards. Easy to pick on, impossible not to love, and everybody's favourite."
