The German guided his side to Carabao Cup glory on Sunday

Jurgen Klopp has insisted he 'couldn't care less' about his legacy following his side's Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Virgil van Dijk scored the winner for the Merseyside giants in the 119th minute, powering home a header having previously had a similar goal chalked off.

It was a jubilant day for Klopp, who was visibly emotional after the match at Wembley.

The 56-year-old is leaving Anfield at the end of the season after a glittering spell and was serenaded by Liverpool fans inside the famous ground.

After the game, in his post-match press conference, Klopp was asked about what the victory does for his legacy.

Yet the German was dismissive and insisted he wasn't at the club to build one.

"I couldn't care less about my legacy. I'm not here to create one," he admitted.

"As a manager of a football club, you are there to do the job actually. Nothing that we did in the last eight-and-a-half years would have happened... it's not replaceable, you couldn't have done the same in another club or whatever.

"It was exactly made for this combination and it's fantastic.

"But we learn so much in that time, I learned so much, the people learned so much.

"It's not a problem if the manager leaves or whatever, if these people would leave – our supporters – that would be a problem.

"But as long as they are the way they are, Liverpool Football Club will be fine and that's the most important thing.

"But for these kind of things from time to time you need something to really celebrate."

He added: "Come on, this was so special.

"You saw the game, you saw the circumstances. We had problems before the game, they became bigger during the game... And then getting through all of this, you see tired players.

"I have no clue who can play on Wednesday because we had players on the pitch until the end of the game who had problems.

"We asked Harvey [Elliott] to stay, we asked Lucho [Luis Diaz] to stay up front, don't go back anymore.

"So, I have no idea who can play on Wednesday but for tonight it is a night I will never forget.

"If nobody else sees it like that, no problem. For me, it's a really nice memory forever."

"Look, of course that was difficult," he said when asked about Chelsea's struggles in the closing stages of the match.

"Of course always some experience, some leadership inside the pitch helps but of course, after to be frustrated.

"The players feel the disappointment because we were so close to winning the game after 90 minutes and we feel a little bit to lose our energy.

"Some players like [Conor] Gallagher and Chilly [Ben Chilwell] start to feel really, really tired and maybe use different players to go with and help.

"We need to change Gallagher after five minutes and then in the start of the second 15 minutes, I think Chilwell."
