The German has no plans on returning to the Allianz Arena

Julian Nagelsmann has chosen to reject Bayern Munich with the 36-year-old planning to sign a new contract with the German national team instead, according to reports.

The young boss was ruthlessly sacked by Bayern last March, with Thomas Tuchel drafted in as his replacement.

However, with Tuchel leaving the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, there's been talk of a possible return.

Nagelsmann, who won the Bundesliga title in 2022, is currently in charge of the Germany national team ahead of the European Championships this summer.

He was appointed as Hansi Flick's replacement back in September.

Nagelsmann has since proceeded to impress in his new role, with Germany starting to resemble their old selves ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.

And BILD say the 36-year-old has no plans on returning to Bayern, despite interest from his former club.

Instead, Nagelsmann would prefer to sign a new contract with Germany - having originally penned a deal that expires this summer.

That means Bayern will likely have to go back to the drawing board as they seek a successor to Tuchel, with several names in the frame.

Bayern had originally intended to raid fierce rivals Bayer Leverkusen for Xabi Alonso.

But with Alonso working wonders over at the BayArena, the Spaniard has no plans on jumping ship at the current moment in time.

With Nagelsmann out of reach, it's feasible Bayern will push ahead with the potential appointment of Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi has impressed with his work at Brighton, despite the club struggling for consistency this season.

Manchester United have also been linked with the 44-year-old, though Bayern's interest appears to be stronger at the current moment in time.

Flick has been linked with a Bayern homecoming of his own, having previously won the treble with the club in 2020.

Ralf Rangnick can't be ruled out, with his vast knowledge of German football working in his favour.

And Sebastian Hoeness and Jose Mourinho are currently dark horses for the role.

The report says Nagelsmann wants his assistant coach, Sandro Wagner, to stay as well.

And Wagner 'never had an issue' with speculation linking the current Germany boss with a move back to Bayern.

Bayern are still going strong in the Champions League this season, meanwhile, and beat Arsenal 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Star striker Harry Kane insists the players are behind Tuchel and determined to give him the best possible send-off ahead of his departure at the end of the season.

“We are going to stick behind Thomas as long as he is here, until the end of the season," he said after the result.

“He has given all his energy to make us successful in this competition.

“We need that togetherness, we’ve lacked it a bit in the Bundesliga this year, we’ve had it in the Champions League, so we are going to need more of it in the semi-final.

“It feels amazing to be there. Credit to Arsenal, they put up a tough test but in the second leg we knew we had an extra five per cent, which was the crowd behind us.

“We knew we could find a way to get through and that’s what we did.

"The first half, I thought the game was 50-50, a bit cagey, but in the second half we came out with a real intensity, we had a few chances that hit the post and we got the goal, we stuck together and we saw it through.”
