Joey Barton has been charged with wounding with intent after an incident at a golf club.
An altercation was claimed to have taken place near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club in Merseyside, and two men were confirmed to be involved, police have said.
Emergency services were called to the facility on Sunday night following reports of an assault.
One man was taken to the hospital for assessment of injuries to his face and ribs, according to a police statement.

He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Merseyside Police released a statement confirming that both men were charged with Section 18 wounding with intent.
Both men remain in custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court this afternoon, Tuesday, March 10.

The Merseyside Police statement read "We can confirm that two men have been charged following an assault in Huyton on Sunday night, March 8.
"At around 9pm, emergency services were called to Fairway to reports of a man having been assaulted near to Huyton and Prescot Golf Club.
"The victim was taken to hospital for assessment of serious injuries to his face and body. He is in a serious but stable condition in hospital."
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the force told GB News that both men were in custody and would be questioned by detectives.
They added: "Enquiries are ongoing into the incident."

At a High Court hearing on Tuesday over a libel claim involving Barton, Gervase de Wilde, representing former England forward Eni Aluko, said his instructing solicitor had “received a call from a duty solicitor in a police station in Liverpool" shortly before the hearing.
Mr de Wilde told the court on Tuesday that Barton "was arrested yesterday and is currently being held in custody”.
Barton was known throughout his career for his time at Manchester City and QPR.
The former midfielder has also managed Fleetwood and Bristol Rovers.
