Jarrod Bowen has spoken candidly about his altercation with West Ham supporters following their Carabao Cup elimination by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The England international spoke out on the confrontation that occurred after the Hammers' 3-2 defeat at Molineux.


The incident happened when West Ham's players approached the away section to acknowledge their travelling support after surrendering a 2-1 advantage.

Late goals from Jorgen Strand Larsen had knocked Graham Potter's side out of the competition, marking their third consecutive defeat to begin the campaign.

The forward attempted to enter the away section during the heated exchange but was restrained by teammates including Tomas Soucek and Nayef Aguerd.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Bowen emphasised his refusal to avoid difficult situations.

"I think with me, I'll never hide or shy away from anything, I'll always face the music whenever it comes that is a responsibility of being captain, and that responsibility also comes because I've been there for so long as well," he said.

The 28-year-old acknowledged his deep connection to the club whilst expressing empathy for supporters' frustrations.

"I care a lot for the club. The fans are similar to me. They are loyal and passionate, and want the best for their club," Bowen explained.

Following the confrontation, he issued an apology, attributing his reaction to his commitment to West Ham.

The striker demonstrated that the dispute had been resolved when he found the net during West Ham's 3-0 triumph against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

His celebration in front of the away supporters showed the relationship had been mended.

"We've put that [incident] behind us, and we won on Sunday, and you saw the celebrations we had after the game on Sunday," Bowen confirmed.

He reflected on football's ups and downs, noting: "In football, you go through a lot of bad times, but when the good times come, you enjoy them that little bit more."

Bowen's performance against Forest earned him a return to the England setup after missing June's international fixtures.

The forward revealed he held discussions with Thomas Tuchel following West Ham's 5-1 loss to Chelsea in August.

"I had conversations with the manager after the Chelsea game. He came to the game. Obviously, it was a disappointing result for us, and he knew it was a difficult time straight after a game when you lose like that," Bowen said.

The West Ham captain expressed optimism that Sunday's victory could serve as a turning point for Graham Potter's squad after their challenging start to the campaign.
