It is the fourth time the England international has seen his retrial delayed

Harry Maguire's legal troubles in Greece show no sign of ending soon. The Manchester United defender's retrial has been pushed back for the fourth time in five years, with proceedings now set for March 2026.

His defence team turned up at a court in Syros on Wednesday morning, but they will have to wait several more months yet again.

It was 2020 when the England international was originally arrested on the Greek island of Mykonos.

The case involves allegations of assaulting a police officer and attempted bribery. Maguire received a 21-month suspended sentence, though this was automatically overturned on appeal under Greek law.

The 32-year-old was arrested during a family holiday in the summer of 2020 following an altercation outside a nightclub.

He was found guilty of repeated bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, and attempted bribery.

His brother, Joe, and friend Christopher Sharman were also involved in the incident. They received 13-month suspended sentences after being accused of clashing with rival fans and police.

All three men deny the charges against them.

Maguire's conviction meant he briefly had a criminal record, but this was wiped clean when the verdict was nullified following his appeal.

There is even a genuine chance this case might never reach a conclusion.

Greece's statute of limitations runs out after eight years, which would be August 2028.

The delays have become a pattern. The first postponement happened in May 2023 when Maguire's lawyer, human rights specialist Alexis Anagnostakis, couldn't make it due to a Supreme Court commitment in Athens.

February 2024 brought another setback when Greek lawyers went on strike over tax measures. Only emergency cases were heard during that period.

Then in March this year, the trial was delayed once more.

It's frustrating for everyone involved, particularly as Maguire remains determined to clear his name after all this time.

Maguire has always been adamant about what happened that night in Mykonos. Speaking to the BBC in August 2020, he said: "My conscience is clear. I know exactly what happened that night."

He claimed plain-clothes officers struck him repeatedly on the legs and told him his career would be over. This led him to flee, believing he was about to be kidnapped.

The defender hasn't represented England for 13 months and wasn't selected by Thomas Tuchel for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Latvia.

He's currently on holiday with his family while his legal team handles the case.
