Harry Kane's long wait for a trophy is finally over after Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga

England captain Harry Kane has finally ended his trophy drought, lifting the first silverware of his career after Bayern Munich secured the Bundesliga title.

The 31-year-old striker celebrated with teammates following their 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Kane's breakthrough moment comes after nearly 700 games without a major trophy, having endured years of near misses with Tottenham Hotspur.

The title was confirmed last weekend when Bayer Leverkusen's 2-2 draw with SC Freiburg made it impossible for them to catch Vincent Kompany's side.

Kane opened the scoring with a header after 31 minutes, netting his 25th league goal of the season in the comfortable win.

Former Crystal Palace man Michael Olise added the second goal in the 90th minute to seal the victory.

The win came six days after Bayern had mathematically secured the title, allowing them to celebrate properly at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern reclaimed their dominance in German football, securing their 12th Bundesliga title in 13 years and their 34th German championship overall.

Kane was elated as he kissed the Meisterschale - the champions' bowl - and raised it above his head to the cheers of his teammates.

The celebrations were jubilant, with Kane later having champagne poured over his head in a traditional beer shower known locally as a Weißbierdusche.

The England captain was also spotted smoking cigars alongside former Tottenham teammate Eric Dier and Joshua Kimmich during the festivities.

The Bayern squad celebrated at the gourmet restaurant Kafer in Munich's Bogenhausen district, with champagne, wine and cigars flowing freely.

"It was a weight on the shoulders so it was nice to have that lifted — and now we can enjoy it," Kane told reporters after being drenched with beer.

"It's been a long time coming, obviously a lot of hard work and a lot of dedication," he added in a social media message the following day.

The striker described it as "an incredible feeling" that was "worth the wait" after playing 694 games before finally securing major silverware.

"I'm sure everyone's feeling it a little bit this morning but we're here and I feel amazing," Kane admitted.

Kane's trophy drought had become something of a curse throughout his career, with six final defeats to his name.

Three of those came with Tottenham, two with England and one with Bayern Munich.

Despite winning numerous individual accolades, including three Premier League Golden Boots, team success had always eluded him.

Some felt the curse had followed him to Germany when Bayern went trophyless last season after his £95million move from Spurs.

That drought is now firmly behind him as he celebrates his first major honour.

"We're going to enjoy this for sure, but then hopefully this is just the first of many," Kane said, looking to the future.

"We have a great team, a great coach and yeah, we feel like we're building, so we're looking forward to the challenge."

Kane and his wife Kate reportedly left the celebrations at 1:34am, eight hours after the squad had gathered.

The striker is already setting his sights on more silverware, saying: "We look forward to the next one and we go again and try and get number two."

Kane's remarkable season has seen him make history as the first player in Bundesliga history to be crowned top scorer in both his first two seasons.

The achievement adds another individual accolade to his impressive collection.

His 25 goals in the league campaign were instrumental in Bayern's title triumph.

Kane's scoring prowess has translated seamlessly from the Premier League to the Bundesliga.

The striker's consistent goal-scoring form bodes well for England's World Cup hopes next year.

The striker had warm words for his former club Tottenham, who have reached the Europa League final against Manchester United.

"I'll be watching and hoping they can win, and it could be a good month for a lot of Spurs fans," Kane said.

"I know a lot of them have reached out to me and they're happy to see me lift this title."
