The Hammers boss is already under pressure after a poor start to the season

Graham Potter attempted to maintain perspective following West Ham's crushing 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham, acknowledging the painful result whilst searching for encouragement from his team's first half display.

"In the end, the scoreline is a difficult one for us," the former Chelsea boss told Sky Sports after the result.

"The second half went away from us quickly, I thought the first half was good. We showed our attacking intent.

"There were positives in the first half but we made a mistake in the second half, the second half was really uncomfortable. We have had to suffer.

"The team is coming together and we have to be patient with them. Focus on the positives and move forward.

"I understand [fans' frustration], the scoreline is the scoreline. Of course every one is upset. From our perspective, we have to look at the positives.

"We have played two games at home against two top sides. We are a new team and need to stick together."

The match's complexion changed dramatically after the interval, that saw the sides level, when Pape Matar Sarr nodded in unmarked from a corner, marking the fifth set piece goal Potter's team have conceded this campaign.

The situation deteriorated rapidly when Tomas Soucek received a straight red card for a high challenge on Joao Palhinha that tore the midfielder's sock above the shin pad.

With West Ham down to ten men, their defence crumbled spectacularly. Lucas Bergvall produced an exquisite looping header merely seconds after play resumed, before Micky van de Ven drove in a third goal shortly after the hour mark.

The visitors netted all three goals within a devastating 19-minute spell that left the home side in disarray.

West Ham's struggles at the London Stadium have reached alarming proportions, with the team failing to secure victory in their past seven home fixtures - their worst run since moving from the Boleyn Ground.

The defeat leaves Potter's side languishing in 18th position in the Premier League table, having suffered their third loss of the campaign.

The statistics paint a grim picture for the Hammers, who have now conceded eight goals across their two most recent home league matches.

Their last home triumph in the Premier League dates back to late February, highlighting the severity of their current predicament.

Thomas Frank's Tottenham produced an ideal response to their pre-international break setback, climbing to second place alongside Arsenal on points.

The victory marked Frank as just the third Spurs manager to triumph in his initial two away league fixtures, joining Ossie Ardiles and Tim Sherwood in achieving this feat.

Mohamed Kudus endured persistent jeering from home supporters throughout his return to face his former club following his £55million summer switch to north London.

Many West Ham fans had already departed well before the final whistle, continuing a troubling pattern of early exits that has become increasingly common during Potter's tenure.
