The former BBC presenter was back on the national broadcaster after cameras picked him up at Wimbledon

Gary Lineker appeared on BBC cameras for the first time since his departure from Match of the Day in May, when he left the corporation following controversy over sharing a social media post that included a rat emoji - a symbol historically used in antisemitic propaganda.

The 64-year-old former England striker was filmed at Wimbledon today, marking his return to BBC screens after ending his 26-year tenure presenting the flagship football highlights programme.

His exit came a year earlier than planned after he deleted the offensive post, but the damage to his relationship with the broadcaster proved irreparable.

The broadcasting veteran was spotted in the Royal Box alongside heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua on day five of the Championships at the All England Club.

BBC cameras captured Lineker laughing and chatting with the former world champion as they watched the action unfold on Centre Court this Friday afternoon.

His appearance at SW19 comes amid fresh criticism of his former employer over their refusal to broadcast a documentary about Gaza.

The corporation had commissioned and funded "Gaza: Doctors Under Attack" but declined to air it, citing impartiality concerns despite scheduling six different transmission dates between January and February.

Channel 4 has now acquired the rights to the documentary, which was produced by Basement Films.

At a screening on Thursday evening, Lineker delivered a scathing assessment of the BBC's decision whilst fighting back tears.

"One of the most important films I've ever seen, certainly the most moving. I might need a minute here," he told the audience.

"It needed to be seen. It really did need to be seen. I think everyone would agree with that. I think the BBC should hold its head in shame."

The former Tottenham player's criticism marks a dramatic shift from his previous stance defending the corporation.

"I've worked for the corporation for 30 years; to see the way it's declined in the last year or two has been devastating really," Lineker added.

"I've defended it and defended it against claims that it is partial."
