Gareth Southgate has bagged a new job - but not what you might think

Gareth Southgate has landed a new job as a UEFA technical adviser, alongside former Manchester United boss David Moyes.

It is the first role the 53-year-old has taken since leaving his role as England boss after Euro 2024.

Southgate will oversee matches in the Champions League as technical observer, a role he has completed before.

His work will include reporting insight via WhatsApp to UEFA analysts in their Nyon hub.

The former Three Lions coach will also file reports to UEFA within 24 to 48 hours, talking about the tactical set-ups of teams in and out of possession.

UEFA saw Southgate as the ideal candidate for the job due to his previous experience in the post, as well as his CV with England.

During his eight years in charge of the Three Lions, he led the nation to two finals at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, ultimately losing both.

After the defeat to Italy in July, he stepped down as manager while a replacement has already been talked up.

Now Southgate will team up with UEFA but he is not the only one with Moyes also landing a similar role.

The Scotsman had been out of work after his contract at West Ham expired at the end of last season, having also coached the likes of Everton, United and Real Sociedad.

Moyes had worked the same job for UEFA over Euro 2024 and will team up with Southgate ahead of the new season.

The 61-year-old recently spoke positively about his time in the post and is keen to continue working for UEFA.

He said: "The most rewarding thing is to discuss so many things with a group of football people who have different opinions and ways of seeing things.

"It's really good to be part of that and I've brought information and ideas back from both EURO and the Nations League.

"The ideas you get from watching the amazing coaching at top level can be exploited all the way down to junior teams."
