A car has collided with several pedestrians during Liverpool's title parade on Monday

Everton FC have posted a statement in response to a serious incident during Liverpool's title parade on Monday evening.

A car has collided with a number of pedestrians on Water Street as Liverpool fans celebrated their side winning the Premier League, with thousands descending on the city.


Merseyside Police have confirmed to GB News that a 53-year-old white British male was detained at the scene.

It is not known how many people were injured during the incident, nor if there have been any fatalities.

Eyewitnesses told GB News Liverpool Lime Street station has been shut and "[there were] tonnes of police and ambulance came rushing in, it was mad."

And Everton FC have posted a statement, showing their support of their city rivals.

They wrote: "Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city."

That was in response to Liverpool's own statement on social media, which wrote: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.

"We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."

The Premier League have also released their own statement on the matter, writing: "Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.

"We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident."

The players and coaches were celebrating on an open-top bus as it made its way around the city with the trophy.

The jubilant scenes came to a shuddering halt around 18:00, though, when a car drove through a crowd of people on Water Street, which is adjacent to one of the roads the parade was making its way through.

A statement from the police said: "We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.

"We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.

"We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784.

"Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
