Manchester City have had to cope without Erling Haaland for the bulk of the past couple of months.

But the Norway international's brace against Everton in Saturday night's Premier League clash proves that he's worth the wait, with the striker firing his side to all three points.

City had gone into their match with Everton on a high after a 3-1 victory over Brentford last time out.

Yet they had to work hard to secure the win against Sean Dyche's side, who deserve credit for their dogged defensive work.

City have a plethora of attacking talent at their disposal, with Pep Guardiola possessing arguably the best squad in the whole of world football.

But Haaland's well-taken double has sent the clear message that nobody in the Premier League comes remotely close.

He opened the deadlock in the 71st minute, expertly smashing the ball past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.

It clearly meant a lot to Haaland, who looked jubilant as he slid on his knees in celebration.

For a brief period, City seemed to take their eye off the ball - giving Everton hope of leaving the Etihad with something to their name.

But Haaland dashed those dreams with his second goal, coolly slotting past Pickford for a second time after some fine work from Kevin De Bruyne.

City had gone into the game behind fierce rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League table.

However, after consigning Everton to yet another defeat, they're now the strong favourites to go on and claim the prize for the fourth year in a row.

It will take some stopping the defending champions, especially now they've got two of their best players back in Haaland and De Bruyne.

De Bruyne has only recently returned to action after missing the majority of the season so far.

When the Belgium international plays, however, he's a cut above the rest. Keep him fit and all signs point to City leaving their rivals trailing in their wake once again.

There's been talk of Haaland potentially leaving the club for Real Madrid at the end of the season, particularly if Los Blancos fail to acquire Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.
