The Three Lions play two friendlies at Wembley in March as they prepare for Euro 2024

England manager Gareth Southgate is reportedly considering recalling a player who hasn't been in a squad for five years.

Jack Butland could be set for a shock inclusion in the next Three Lions squad, while Southgate also mulls over three potential new additions.

England play two friendlies against Brazil and Belgium next month, the final time they will meet up before this summer's European Championship.

Southgate will already have a good idea of the majority of the squad he would pick but the final few spots are up for grabs.

England will head to Germany as many people's favourites to go all the way and win their first major tournament since 1966.

Southgate led his team to the final at Euro 2020 and will be hoping to go one better than that heartbreaking night against Italy at Wembley.

Jordan Pickford is almost guaranteed to be the No 1, having been so at the three tournaments Southgate has managed so far.

However, who is picked as back-up to the Everton goalkeeper remains to be seen.

The Daily Mail claims that Southgate is 'concerned' about his options in goal.

Nick Pope is still out with a dislocated shoulder and will not return until at least the end of March.

Aaron Ramsdale remains out of favour at Arsenal, while Sam Johnstone has struggled for game time at Crystal Palace although started Monday's crunch match at Everton.

Dean Henderson and James Trafford have had tough campaigns for Palace and Burnley respectively, so Butland could get a shock recall.

Butland is currently impressing at Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers having joined on a free transfer last summer.

The 30-year-old has won nine caps for England since his debut in 2012 but has not been included in a squad since the Nations League Finals in 2019.

Butland had a loan spell at Manchester United in the second half of last season but didn't make an appearance.

An uncapped United player could be in line for a first inclusion in a senior squad.

Mainoo, 18, has made 11 starts in the Premier League for United this season and has impressed many with his performances.

He is expected to be picked in the England under-21 squad next month but he is already being eyed by Southgate.

Two more uncapped players that Southgate is considering are Fulham's Harrison Reed and Everton's James Garner.

Kalvin Phillips' struggles during his first few games at West Ham has seen Southgate assess his midfield options.

Phillips has made errors that have led to two goals since joining on loan from Manchester City and was sent off in Saturday's defeat at Nottingham Forest.

He has remained in Southgate's squad this season but his form must be a concern to the Three Lions boss.

Jordan Henderson looks set to keep his place in the squad after his move to Ajax in January.
