Fans on social media went absolutely wild for the Real Madrid midfielder's performance, showering him with praise

England midfielder Jude Bellingham, sidelined with a hamstring problem, was caught on camera looking absolutely gobsmacked as teammate Federico Valverde put on a masterclass against Manchester City.

Television cameras captured Bellingham's jaw-dropping reaction during the half-time break as he rewatched Valverde's sensational third goal on a big screen.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan had already bagged twice before completing his treble in the 42nd minute, leaving Real Madrid 3-0 up against Pep Guardiola's side despite missing several key players, including Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe.

The goal that appeared to leave Bellingham speechless was something truly special.

Brahim Diaz floated a clever chipped pass into the penalty area at chest height, with Marc Guehi seemingly well-positioned to intercept.

But Valverde had other ideas, lifting his right foot high into the air and delicately flicking the ball over the City defender's head with an outrageous first touch.

The ball dropped perfectly for the midfielder, who then smashed it past Gianluigi Donnarumma from close range to seal his hat-trick.

Bellingham seemed to watch the goal twice from his seat in the stands.

Another quipped: "THIS IS INSANE! THIS IS HISTORY! THIS IS VALVERDE!"

Valverde had only scored three goals in all competitions for Real Madrid this entire season before Wednesday's match.

He matched that tally in just 42 minutes against City.

Valverde is closing in on 400 appearances for Los Blancos.

He joined Madrid from the Uruguayan side Penarol as a teenager.

The dynamic midfielder has already lifted two Champions League trophies during his time in the Spanish capital, and his stunning treble has put Real in a commanding position to reach this season's quarter-finals.

City now face the daunting task of overturning a three-goal deficit at the Etihad next week.

Both Bellingham and Mbappe are expected to be available for the second leg as they continue their recovery from injury.
