Inter Milan take on Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Champions League tonight hoping to win the tournament for the first time since the days of Jose Mourinho back in 2010.

That year, Inter won the treble. Having scooped the Serie A and Coppa Italia titles, they then locked horns with Louis van Gaal's Bayern Munich in the final.

It wasn't a thriller but Inter didn't care, with Mourinho's men getting the job done with a 2-0 victory.

Diego Milito was the hero of the hour for the Italian giants, with the striker scoring twice to deliver the trophy that fans craved the most.

It was a brilliant performance from the Argentine, who had only arrived the previous summer from Genoa.

In 2009, Inter needed a new forward to replace the charismatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who decided to leave the San Siro in order to play under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.

Inter, being the savvy negotiators they are, were able to get Samuel Eto'o in return.

However, Mourinho opted against using Eto'o as his main no 9 and sanctioned a deal that brought Milito in.

He had, in the 2008/09 campaign, netted a remarkable 26 goals from 32 appearances for Genoa.

Milito and Mourinho were a match made in heaven. The Argentine netted 30 goals across 52 competitions, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in world football in the process.

When Mourinho left for Real Madrid after Inter's Champions League win, however, Milito struggled.

Rafael Benitez was a disaster, while Leonardo fared little better when the Spaniard was sacked.

Having scored 30 goals in his first year at the club, Milito managed to find the net just 45 more times before leaving in 2014.

He ended his career with three seasons at Racing Club, where he notched 22 times from 72 games.

After retiring, Milito actually took charge of Racing.

He won two titles there, with the Superliga and Trofeo de Campeones both secured in 2019.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Milito left his role at the end of 2020, however, after clashing with the club's hierarchy.

That seemed to be the end of his love affair with Racing.

In December last year, however, the now 45-year-old returned in order to be sporting director.

Milito signed a four-year deal with his beloved side. Gustavo Costas is manager there for the time being.

Whether Inter can beat PSG remains to be seen.

It will also be intriguing to see if Milito, the hero of their last European triumph, turns up to watch the action in Munich.
