The England international was the best player on the pitch at Wembley on Saturday

Dean Henderson was the star of the show on Saturday as Crystal Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 to win the FA Cup at Wembley.

The shot-stopper produced a masterclass at the country's best stadium, making numerous saves - including from an Omar Marmoush penalty - as his side secured glory in the tournament for the very first time.

Henderson, who was once seen as the heir to David De Gea at Manchester United, has won the FA Cup less than a year on from the death of his father.

He announced the news last summer, calling his father his 'best friend', his 'first coach' and his role model.

Prior to the match, he spoke about making his old man proud.

And Henderson cut an emotional figure as he discussed Palace's shock victory over City, with the 28-year-old just about able to maintain his composure.

"I lost my dad at the start of the season, but he was with me today," he said.

"He was with me every kick of the game. I dedicate that win to him."

On the match in general, he continued: "Incredible. We had a feeling it would be our day today. The manager got a game plan and we executed it. We deserve this so much."

Some felt Henderson should have been dismissed in the first half.

The goalkeeper handled the ball while under pressure from Erling Haaland but, in the end, was let off the hook.

When quizzed on that incident, he said: "The ball carried into my box and I knew it was fine - who cares?"

Pundits working on the match hailed Palace for their win.

While they didn't dominate possession, they won the trophy courtesy of a superb goal from Eberechi Eze in the 16th minute.

The magic of the FA Cup has been called into question at times, with many other sides focusing on the Premier League and Champions League.

But Palace have finally won it for the first time. Wayne Rooney believes they deserve it, with the former striker saying: "First half, they sat in and had a few chances.

And Micah Richards agreed, with the former City star saying: "These games are about moments. There were big moments that changed the game today, on another day City could have won it.
