The Reds have had a busy summer that shows no sign of slowing down

Liverpool have agreed a deal for Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez to join Al Hilal for an initial £46million with £10million in add-ons.

The Saudi club are now said to be finalising personal terms with the Uruguayan, although these are not thought to be a problem with the club willing to match his demands.

If the 26-year-old was to join the club, he would be greeted by some familiar faces in former Premier League stars Aleksandar Mitrovic, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves.

Nunez had been subject to interest from Serie A champions Napoli, however they chose to pursue other targets after failing to agree a deal with Liverpool.

This departure, along with the sale of Luis Diaz to German champions Bayern Munich for £65million, frees up further funds for the Reds’ pursuit of Alexander Isak.

The news comes as it was revealed that despite returning to training at Newcastle, Isak continues to train alone and away from the main group.

According to Sky Sports, boss Eddie Howe arranged a family day for players’ families but the Swede was not present, instead being instructed to train alone following the gathering.

After they saw their initial £110million bid for the 25-year-old firmly rejected, the Reds had told Newcastle that they would return for Isak when the Magpies had sorted a replacement.

Newcastle are said to be asking for a fee of £150million to consider letting their star striker leave the club.

Howe’s side had prioritised a move for Benjamin Sesko to replace Isak however, like many other targets this summer, he chose elsewhere.

The Slovenian striker is expected to complete a deal to Manchester United this week, with the clubs coming close to an agreement.

The departure of Nunez and subsequent continuation of the Isak saga adds to Liverpool’s dramatic transfer window.

Slot’s side have already spent big on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

The Anfield club have also seen significant departures, with Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jarell Quansah all leaving.

Nunez, who is expected to join that list, joined Liverpool for a fee of £75million from Benfica in 2022, but has failed to live up to the price tag.

The Uruguayan international has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances at Anfield.

Nunez managed just seven goals last term under Arne Slot, but struggled for game time and often found himself down the pecking order below the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

The arrival of exciting French forward Ekitike and the possibility of Isak means there is little room for game time in Slot’s squad for the Uruguayan international.
