Chelsea and PSG fans were left dumbfounded by the halftime show

The Club World Cup was blasted over its halftime show during Chelsea's clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Chelsea found themselves cruising at the midway point, shocking the European champions by racing into a three-goal lead.

The Blues put on a masterclass in the first 45 minutes with Cole Palmer scoring twice before new signing Joao Pedro made it three.

PSG boss Luis Enrique was left shellshocked, having never been three goals down at halftime during his time in charge of the French team.

But during the halftime break, it was the fans who were left gobsmacked as an array of musicians played out a halftime show which garnered a huge reaction on social media.

Doja Cat, J Balvin and Tems all performed as fans in the stadium cheered along - though the feeling did not appear to be mutual across the world.

One fan wrote: "This gotta be the worst halftime show in the history of sports."

Another posted: "At least the Club World Cup is consistent in it's awfulness. This is the worst halftime show I've ever seen!"

While a third said: "Hello USA, football fans don’t want a show at halftime, they want a pie and a pint."

The comments did not stop with another saying: "Americans suck with this halftime show nonsense."

And this fan simply put: "Never do this halftime show thing ever again."

Fireworks went off as the show concluded and gave a taster of what is to come next year at the World Cup.

The United States are co-hosting the event, alongside Canada and Mexico while the final is set to go ahead at the MetLife Stadium.

US President Donald Trump was in attendance, sitting next to FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, who came up with the halftime show idea.

Infantino hired Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to arrange the musical spectacle and next year's World Cup final is set to see similar scenes.

As for the football, Chelsea made a statement with the rip-roaring football that left PSG chasing shadows.

Only two months ago, this Paris side dismantled Europe's best en route to their first-ever Champions League title - beating Inter Milan 4-0 in the final.

Chelsea appeared to target PSG's left-hand side, despite Nuno Mendes' incredible form throughout the season, and it paid dividends.

Malo Gusto took advantage of a rare mistake from the Portugal international to run through on goal before his blocked shot eventually made its way to Palmer.

The Englishman delicately placed his shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma before repeating the trick moments later after a sensational dummy, doubling Chelsea's lead.

Palmer then turned provider moments before half-time, feeding Pedro to put him one on one with the PSG keeper, dinking the ball over his head in style.
