The Blues soared to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has opened up following his side's 2-0 victory over Fulham in the west London derby on Saturday.

The Blues went into the showdown with their rivals hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season after a draw with Crystal Palace and victory over West Ham last time out.

And Chelsea did exactly that, with goals from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez giving them all three points.

The match was, however, not without controversy.

Fulham were enraged in the first half when Josh King had a goal chalked off by referee Rob Jones following a VAR intervention.

The goal was disallowed because Rodrigo Muniz was adjudged to have fouled Trevoh Chalobah, with the decision leaving Cottagers boss Marco Silva furious.

And Chelsea's second goal was controversial, too.

Ryan Sessegnon was punished for a handball, with a penalty given, despite Pedro appearing to handle the ball.

In the first half, before all the drama, Liam Delap was forced out of the match with a hamstring injury.

And Maresca, speaking in his post-match interview with TNT Sports, has now announced the striker could be out for as long as two months.

“Liam Delap is expected to be out for 6 to 8 weeks because of this type of injury," he said.

Maresca was also asked if Chelsea would now try and sign a striker with 48 hours of the transfer window remaining.

In his post-match press conference, he said: "Injury doesn't look good.

"He was full speed, hamstring, so that requires weeks. I've just come here for the press conference, we will see if we take any decision.

"When you have two strikers, it is enough.

"When one of them is injured for weeks, it is probably not enough."

Unsurprisingly, when it came to the VAR drama, Maresca didn't choose to talk about it too much.

"From my point of view, it's quite clear he kicks Trev and the second one, it's a handball," he continued.

"I can understand their point of view.

"I'm very happy. We have seven points [from three matches], it's important.

"I was not happy after the first half because we didn't play on the ball in the way we prepared.

"Second-half, we were very good on the ball and good with second balls. We dominated the second half."

Chelsea will return to action after the international break when they lock horns with Brentford on September 13 (8pm).
