Arsenal suffered defeat in the Champions League final after losing to PSG on penalties

Chelsea couldn't resist having a dig at their London rivals tonight, posting a cheeky social media advertisement just moments after Arsenal's heartbreaking Champions League final defeat.

The Blues took to Instagram to promote stadium tours at Stamford Bridge, describing their home ground as "London's Home of Trophies."

It's a brutal bit of timing, given Arsenal had just lost 4-3 on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in what would have been the Gunners' first ever Champions League triumph.

Chelsea's post featured images of their Champions League and Club World Cup silverware, alongside banners inside Stamford Bridge reading "London's finest" and "Pride of London."

"Come and visit London's Home of Trophies," the club wrote.

"Book your Stadium Tour at Stamford Bridge now via the link on our story or in our bio."

The final itself was a tense affair that looked to be going Arsenal's way early on.

Kai Havertz gave the Gunners the lead after just six minutes, and PSG found it difficult to break down Mikel Arteta's side for much of the first half.

The defending champions got back into it on 65 minutes when Ousmane Dembele converted from the spot after Cristian Mosquera had fouled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the box.

Neither side could find a winner in extra time, with Viktor Gyokeres coming agonisingly close late on when his effort was deflected behind.

In the shootout, Eberechi Eze missed Arsenal's second penalty, firing wide of the post, before David Raya kept hopes alive by saving from Nuno Mendes.

Gabriel Magalhaes stepped up needing to score to keep Arsenal in it, but the Brazilian defender blazed his effort over the crossbar.

It's worth noting that Chelsea know a thing or two about winning the Champions League on penalties themselves, having beaten Bayern Munich from the spot back in 2012 under Roberto Di Matteo.

The Blues also lifted the Club World Cup last summer with Enzo Maresca at the helm.

But while Chelsea can boast about their trophy cabinet, their current situation is rather less glamorous.

The west London club finished 10th in this season's Premier League, meaning they won't be playing any European football at all next term.

So while Arsenal will be devastated to have come so close to making history tonight, Chelsea fans watching from home won't have any continental adventures of their own to look forward to.
