The Championship curtain-raiser between Coventry City and Hull City ended in a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon, but the main talking point came in the dying moments when tempers boiled over and a heated brawl broke out between players from both sides.
The flashpoint occurred in the 90th minute at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Hull midfielder Matt Crooks charged into Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth as the 24-year-old leapt to claim a high cross from the left flank.

The contact left Rushworth visibly angered, and he was quickly joined by defender Liam Kitching, who confronted Crooks over what the Sky Blues felt was an unnecessary and overzealous challenge.

What began as a verbal exchange soon escalated.
Several players rushed to the scene, with pushing and shoving breaking out in front of the referee.
One of the first to intervene was Hull’s latest signing, striker Oli McBurnie, who joined the club just two days earlier on a free transfer after leaving Spanish side Las Palmas. McBurnie initially appeared to be attempting to pull Rushworth away from the confrontation.
However, when his efforts failed, the 29-year-old seemed to wrap his hand around the goalkeeper’s neck in a flash of aggression.

Rushworth reacted instantly, grabbing McBurnie’s shirt and shaking him before team-mates from both sides stepped in to separate the pair.
The incident unfolded directly in the referee’s line of sight, leaving little room for interpretation.
Moments later, the official issued yellow cards to McBurnie, Rushworth, and Crooks for their roles in the incident.
For Coventry manager Frank Lampard, the incident overshadowed what was otherwise a strong display from his side.

The Sky Blues dominated possession and created the bulk of the chances, registering 17 shots to Hull’s seven.
However, their lack of composure in front of goal ultimately meant they had to settle for a single point.
Lampard, appointed as Coventry manager back in November, has spoken repeatedly about wanting his team to play with high intensity and creativity in the final third.
While his players showed plenty of energy and commitment, they were unable to convert their dominance into goals.
The Chelsea legend was seen with his hands clasped behind his head in frustration moments before the final whistle in a clear reflection of his feelings about two dropped points on home soil.
For Hull, the draw represents a battling performance, particularly given their limited attacking threat throughout the match.
As for McBurnie, his competitive debut for the Tigers will be remembered more for his involvement in the fracas than for any attacking contribution.
