Fleetwood Mac icon Lindsey Buckingham was targeted in a street assault in California on Wednesday, with a woman hurling an unidentified substance at the 76-year-old musician.
The incident took place in Santa Monica as the legendary guitarist arrived at a building for a scheduled appointment, according to NBC4 Los Angeles.
The assailant struck as Mr Buckingham entered the premises before immediately fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the attack occurred on April 1, with the substance thrown at the Go Your Own Way songwriter remaining unidentified.

The woman responsible for the assault made her escape shortly after confronting the rock star, before making her attack.
Authorities have described the woman as a "stalking suspect" who was already known to Mr Buckingham from prior encounters.
It has been reported that police believe she had discovered the location of his appointment beforehand and waited to confront him upon his arrival.
Despite escaping immediately after the attack, investigators have successfully identified the suspect.

The investigation into the incident is being handled jointly by two agencies, with the Los Angeles Police Department's threat management unit taking a lead role.
A spokesperson for the LAPD told Us Weekly: "Our threat management unit is handling the investigation."

The Santa Monica Police Department is also actively involved in examining the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Both forces are working to establish the full details of what occurred outside the building where the musician had been due to attend his appointment on Wednesday morning.
Fans of Mr Buckingham were quick to wish him well, as one person commented under his recent Instagram post: “I hope you are alright!!!”
“Just saw the news, sending love from Australia. Glad you’re ok,” another added before a third said: “Hope you are alright!! Very glad to hear the person has been arrested.”
