Celtic 1-3 Rangers: More misery for Wilfried Nancy as Gers run rampant

Rangers produced a stunning second-half turnaround to claim a 3-1 victory over Celtic in this afternoon's Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.

The visitors found themselves trailing at the interval after Yang Hyun-Jun had given the hosts the advantage with a spectacular effort.

However, Danny Rohl's side emerged transformed after the break, with Youssef Chermiti netting twice to swing the contest in Rangers' favour.

The former Everton striker, who arrived at Ibrox for £8 million, silenced his critics with a clinical brace that turned the match on its head.

Mikey Moore then sealed the triumph with a third goal in the 73rd minute, completing a remarkable fightback in Glasgow's east end.

The result represents a significant statement from Rangers as they continue their resurgence under Rohl.

For Wilfried Nancy, the defeat compounds what has been a disastrous spell since his arrival from Columbus Crew in early December.

The Frenchman has now suffered six losses in just eight matches at the helm – a record that would have seemed inconceivable for a club of Celtic's stature.

Supporters staged a protest aimed at the board following the final whistle, yet Nancy maintained his position remains secure.

"We are together with the board," he said. "I really believe we can turn things around."

The manager acknowledged the pain of the result, stating: "This is not about myself, this is about disappointing the fans because I know the meaning of this game."

He pointed to defensive lapses from set pieces as the decisive factor, noting all three goals came from throw-in situations.

Nancy had described his team's opening 45 minutes as "outstanding," and the performance warranted such praise.

Celtic controlled proceedings from the outset, with Johnny Kenny sending an early effort across the goalmouth that found no green-and-white shirt to convert.

Auston Trusty came close with a header from an Arne Engels corner that drifted narrowly wide.

The breakthrough arrived on 20 minutes when Yang collected possession from Benjamin Nygren some 35 yards out, drove purposefully into the penalty area, and unleashed a fierce strike into the top corner.

Jack Butland was forced into several saves to keep Rangers in contention before half-time.

Yet the interval proved transformative for the visitors, with Chermiti equalising five minutes after the restart before adding his second on 59 minutes with a composed finish past Kasper Schmeichel.

Rohl paid tribute to his players' character following the remarkable turnaround at Parkhead.

"I give big respect to my team," the Rangers head coach said. "In the first half, we tried something, but they were better."

He explained that tactical adjustments at the interval proved crucial, adding: "We changed at half-time a little bit the style of pressing. We are good in the game then."

The German singled out Chermiti's contribution, describing the striker's goals as "fantastic."

The victory extends Rangers' winning run to three matches and draws them level with Celtic on 38 points in the Scottish Premiership standings.

Both Glasgow clubs now trail leaders Hearts by three points, though that gap could widen to six should Hearts defeat bottom side Livingston later today.
