A 19-year-old man has been arrested by Police Scotland following allegations that referee John Beaton's personal information was distributed online.
The arrest relates to a data protection offence connected to the leak of details belonging to the Scottish football official.
Police Scotland confirmed: "Officers investigating a complaint of personal information being shared online relating to a Scottish football official, have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a data protection offence. Enquiries are continuing."
The incident follows Beaton's contentious decision to award Celtic a late penalty during their midweek fixture against Motherwell at Fir Park.

The Lanarkshire-based referee's ruling, made after consulting VAR in stoppage time, has dominated discussion in Scottish football this week.
Beaton and his family were placed under police protection at their home on Thursday evening after the personal information appeared on the internet.
The Scottish Football Association revealed the surveillance measures and issued a strongly worded condemnation of those responsible.
"The Scottish FA condemns in the strongest possible terms attempts to compromise the safety of match officials," the governing body stated.
The SFA described such behaviour as "vigilantism" driven by perceptions of correct or incorrect decisions made during matches.
"Such vigilantism, motivated by decisions perceived to be right or wrong on a field of play, is a scourge on our national game and we are grateful to Police Scotland for their swift intervention," the statement added.

The governing body called for "tolerance and perspective to prevent any further, unthinkable escalation."
Beaton's decision centred on Motherwell midfielder Sam Nicholson, whom he judged to have handled the ball when a long throw was delivered into the penalty area.
The handball ruling came following a VAR review, with no Celtic player having appealed for the foul.
Kelechi Iheanacho converted the resulting spot-kick in the 100th minute, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory for Celtic at Fir Park on Wednesday evening.
The late winner reduced the gap between Celtic and Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts to a single point ahead of Saturday's decisive encounter.
The two title rivals will meet at Celtic Park in the final top-six fixture of the season.
The Foundation of Hearts, the club's majority shareholder, expressed "extreme concerns" regarding refereeing standards during the title run-in.

The governing body stated this was "the inevitable consequence of the heightening criticism, intolerance and scapegoating demonstrated this season by media pundits, supporters, official supporters' groups, clubs, players, managers and former match officials."
The SFA announced plans to strengthen regulations protecting match officials.
"When it compromises the safety and wellbeing of our most senior match officials, enough is enough," the statement declared.

This marks the second time Beaton's family life has been affected by his refereeing duties, following the sentencing of three men for abusive messages sent after a Rangers-Celtic match in December 2018.
