The Portugal international has spoken out ahead of Sunday's crunch fixture

Bruno Fernandes has called for patience and stability at Manchester United, insisting the players are fully behind manager Ruben Amorim and believe he is the right man to restore the club’s former glory.

United’s season has lurched from promise to crisis, with humbling defeats at Manchester City and Brentford followed by brief revivals, but the captain says the squad remains united behind their manager.

Amorim, almost a year into his tenure, has yet to record back-to-back league wins, yet Fernandes believes the message from both the dressing room and the boardroom is one of faith and continuity.

“I think the club needs stability,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.

“That’s the message I think Sir Jim wants to pass through everyone.

“Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture, and as a group of players we believe that the manager can help this club to get back where it belongs.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s minority owner, publicly backed Amorim during the international break and vowed to give him three years to reshape the side.

For Fernandes, that commitment is crucial.

“If Sir Jim sees it the same way as the players, that the manager is the right one for the job, it makes it better that we have two groups of people looking in the same way,” he said.

A 2–0 win over Sunderland before the international break offered a flicker of optimism, but a trip to Anfield on Sunday looms as another major test.

United’s recent visits to Liverpool have ended in heavy defeat, and Amorim’s position will again come under scrutiny if his side falter.

Fernandes, though, insists pressure is simply part of life at Old Trafford.

“Any manager that comes here will be one game away from a crisis,” he said.

“This club is always like that. If you win a game, it looks like you’re going to win the league.

“If you lose, it looks like there is a cloud over the club that will never go.

“We have players who are aware of the dimension of the club and how it works. We don’t need this around us. We need to know what we’re doing, what we want to achieve in the long term and what we want to achieve for the next game.”

Fernandes described Amorim as “very prepared” for the scrutiny that comes with managing United, saying the Portuguese coach understands the scale of the challenge. Amorim himself acknowledged that bridging the gap to Liverpool, now Premier League champions and United’s fiercest rivals, will not happen overnight.

“I don’t know how long it will take,” Amorim said ahead of the 100th meeting between the clubs at Anfield.

“Sometimes things change really fast. We can win any game, so if we think just about the next one, that is the most important thing.

“We are going to fight to be at the same level as Liverpool in the future — that is the idea. I don’t know how long that is going to take.”
