The Portugal international scored the only goal of the game at Wembley

Bernardo Silva went from villain to hero for Manchester City to send his side through to the final of the FA Cup at Chelsea's expense on Saturday.

The Portugal international was guilty of a horrendous penalty miss in midweek during his side's shootout defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Yet Bernardo made amends on Saturday, scoring the only goal of the game to help boost City's chances of a double.

The former Monaco star netted in the 84th minute from close range after Djordje Petrovic had denied Kevin De Bruyne, sparking wild celebrations in the City end in the process.

City weren't at their swashbuckling best during the match.

They were indebted to Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who spurned several big chances during the game to put his side in front.

But Bernardo, Pep Guardiola and the rest of the City staff are unlikely to care.

It is they who will now play in the FA Cup for the second season in a row, having beaten Manchester United in the final of the same competition last season.

The Red Devils could lie in wait, with Erik ten Hag's side poised to face Coventry in their own FA Cup semi-final clash on Sunday.

City had gone into the game wounded, having seen Real Madrid ruthlessly end their hopes of treble glory on Wednesday night.

And it took Guardiola's side a while to get going, with several players looking leggy during the early stages of the clash.

They did create the first big chance, with Phil Foden able to successfully round Petrovic in the Chelsea goal.

However, the England international found the angle too tight and the Blues were able to clear their lines.

Chelsea also threatened through Jackson, who took the ball past Stefan Ortega, but the 22-year-old didn't look assured and City were able to stop him from breaking the deadlock.

Cole Palmer, who swapped City for Chelsea back in the summer, started to grow into the clash.

The winger tested Ortega himself, with the City goalkeeper able to parry his effort to safety.

In the second half, the match continued to be cagey.

And Jackson continues to infuriate, with the Chelsea star missing two big opportunities in the place of eight seconds.

The former Villarreal star was sent through on goal but didn't guide his effort into the corners, with Ortega able to save.

And when the ball went back into the box, Jackson's header was too weak to cause any serious problems.

In the end, City kept their cool.

They are champions of the world for a reason and their experience and nous started to tell as the match entered its closing stages.

Kevin De Bruyne, who was booed by Chelsea fans throughout the entirety of the contest, stamped his authority on the game.

And the Belgium international played a key role in Bernardo's goal, with his shot saved by Petrovic before his team-mate stuck the ball into the net.

Chelsea hunted a late leveller but, in the end, will leave Wembley with nothing to their name.

As for City, they'll be dreaming of winning the FA Cup once again - while another Premier League title could follow, too.
