Davies' contract with Spurs expires at the end of the season raising the prospect that this could be his last game for the club

Tottenham's Ben Davies suffered a horrific leg injury during the opening stages of Saturday's clash with West Ham after sliding into a challenge on Hammers skipper Jarrod Bowen.

The 32-year-old Welsh defender remained on the pitch in considerable distress following the incident, which occurred around 15 minutes into the match.

Bowen escaped the tackle without any harm.

Medical staff administered oxygen to Davies and fitted his leg with a protective brace before he was transported from the field on a stretcher.

The left-back's afternoon came to an early end, with Djed Spence brought on as his replacement in the 19th minute.

Davies' contract with Spurs expires at the conclusion of the current campaign, raising the prospect that an extended recovery period could bring his time at the north London club to a premature close.

The injury also casts significant doubt over his international ambitions.

Wales still have to qualify for the World Cup to appear at the tournament in North America this summer, with the injury potentially derailing their hopes.
