Arteta has defended reports that Arsenal have complained about the rough treatment suffered by Bukayo Saka.

The Daily Mail claimed this week that the Gunners lodged a complaint to the PGMOL in an attempt to get more protection for Saka.

The England international was the third-most fouled player in the Premier League in 2023.

Arsenal are said to have urged officials to hand out yellow cards earlier for a first offence on Saka, rather than wait for a second foul.

Arteta was asked about the report at his pre-match press conference.

He initially refused to comment on the alleged complaint, replying: "That’s daily communication. We have certain topics but nothing specific about that one."

However, when asked whether yellow cards should be given earlier, Arteta made his feelings clear.

He said: "I think the refs know. They know the tactics of the opponents and that some players invite more tackles but I think they’re aware of that."

Arsenal have received criticism from supporters for approaching the PGMOL.

However, Arteta is not surprised by the reaction, adding: "I think that’s been going on for two years.

"We have wingers that provoke a lot of fouls and attention. That’s something normal."

Edu plots Timber repeat

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Ajax starlet Jorrel Hato.

Hato, 17, has impressed for the Dutch giants who have struggled this season.

The Telegraph claims the youngster has caught the eye of the Gunners recruitment staff.

It would be somewhat of a repeat of the Jurrien Timber signing from last summer.

Arsenal signed the Dutchman from Ajax for a fee in the region of £38million.

Hato has just 18 months remaining on his contract and Ajax want him to sign a new deal.
