The Australian has made his first appearance as Forest manager

Ange Postecoglou has made some choice remarks regarding his old club, Tottenham Hotspur, in his first press conference as Nottingham Forest boss.

Postecoglou was axed from Spurs after winning their first trophy in 17 years as they lifted the Europa League trophy last season.

Forest removed their head coach, Nuno Espiritio Santo, after a falling out with higher-ups and replaced him swiftly with Postecoglou.

Speaking out for the first time since his sacking from Spurs, the 60-year-old spoke about the uncertainty of football, before quickly getting a dig into his former side: “Sometimes you don’t know when these things will end, I definitely didn’t expect to finish up after winning a trophy, but that’s the nature of football.”

He went on to explain how he spent his time off after being removed from the North London side: “It was unusual because it's never happened to me before. It's the first time I've been sacked. It's the first time I've had an off-season off. You wonder about the next opportunity.

“What I did know was I really keen to go to a club that would give me the platform to continue what I've been doing in my career.

“If you asked me at the start of the year if a job with Nottingham Forest was a possibility then I'd have said no because of the job Nuno had done. The opportunity presented itself and I was here to take it."

The Australian was adamant that he will not be changing how he plays and his ambition remains the same.

He continued: "I've said already I want to win trophies and that's what I've done my whole career and that's what I'll do here. Every club wants to be successful but what I've seen over the last few years, those ambitions are backed up with actions.

"I do like my teams to play exciting football and score goals and get fans excited. I make no apologies about that, that's just the way I am. We want to dominate the ball and score goals.

“All of it with the end goal of winning football games. If you win games then you can win trophies. I see a group of players and the opportunity to build something will be good to watch."

He acknowledged that it will take time to not only play the style of football and bring the fans on board, but he does not have anything to prove to anyone.

"Hopefully they'll get behind the team and be excited about the possibilities about what we can achieve. The club is back in Europe and that is really an incentive to create something special.

“I don't see it as a point to prove. I don't have to prove anything to anyone. You let your actions speak for themselves and you understand the responsibility you have.

You have to provide joy to the supporters - that's why football clubs exist. They are the lifeblood of this game. That's all I care about. I'll win things here and people will still have doubts about me.

"I just want to keep doing what I need to do doing because it brings hoy to people and allows me to live my dreams.”

The 60-year-old will have a few days to get used to the team and the players before he faces Arsenal at the Emirates.
