Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou insisted that his club played well against Newcastle despite their defeat.
Newcastle claimed a late win over Spurs despite some heavy pressure from the visitors at St. James' Park in the second half.
Alexander Isak scored the winning goal after being handed an open net by Jacob Murphy as they raced clear of Tottenham's high line.
It came after Harvey Barnes had put the Magpies ahead in the first half with Dan Burn scoring an own goal to level the scores.

The result sees Tottenham drop more points and they sit 10th in the Premier League with four points from a possible nine.
Fans have started to get on Postecoglou's back but the Australian coach insisted his side played well on Sunday afternoon.
"Story of our season so far really," he said in his post-match press conference.
"We played well and controlled the game for the most part. They were a threat in transition but we still had enough chances to win the game comfortably.
"I thought we were handling the transitions. The goal we conceded in the second half was sloppy and we lost focus.

"The game should have been put to bed a lot longer before that.
"What I know is if we continue to play like that we will get our rewards. It's not an easy place to come.
"For the most part, I thought we handled that really well. The way we controlled the game was really pleasing.

"Frustrating more than anything else. It's three good performances but not the results that reflect that."
Tottenham drew their opening game of the season against Leicester despite being in control of the match.
Finding a reliable source of goals has proved difficult for Postecoglou, who never got the chance to coach the club's all-time highest goalscorer Harry Kane after his departure last summer.

Dominic Solanke was signed from Bournemouth but has already picked up an ankle injury which ruled him out against Everton and Newcastle.
However, the £65million man is expected to return after the international break next week.
Spurs will then face Arsenal in the first north London derby of the season on September 14.
