Andy Carroll arrived at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court this Wednesday morning using crutches and wearing a walking boot, having disclosed that he underwent an operation on a fracture and ligament damage over the weekend.
The 36-year-old former England international, who currently turns out for National League South side Dagenham and Redbridge, faces a charge of breaching a non-molestation order.
The striker, who resides in Epping, Essex, is expected to enter his pleas during a short hearing today.
Carroll was taken into custody on April 27 last year in connection with an alleged incident that occurred the previous month.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool frontman was reportedly apprehended by police shortly after touching down at Stansted Airport from France last April.
An Essex Police spokesman previously said: "A man has been charged with breaching a non-molestation order."
The force added: "Andrew Carroll, 36, of Epping, was arrested on April 27 and the alleged offences relate to an incident in March this year."
According to reports at the time, officers questioned Carroll and detained him briefly following his arrival at the Essex airport.

Those found guilty of breaching such an order can face penalties ranging from a fine to imprisonment of up to five years in the most serious cases.
Carroll represented England on nine occasions between 2010 and 201.
At Newcastle, he netted 31 goals in 80 apps during his first spell and helped the club gain promotion in 2010.
