The Sweden international is eager to pursue a new challenge in Merseyside

Alexander Isak’s time at Newcastle appears closer to ending after the house he has been living in was quietly put back on the rental market, just a day after he was left out of the club's players-and-families day.

The 25-year-old was the only senior squad member not invited to the team bonding session at the club’s training ground last week, further underlining his determination to leave.

According to The Times, Isak has vacated his luxury home in Ponteland, having lived in the property since joining from LaLiga side Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63million.

The same house was first advertised in late July for £6,950 per month when Isak flew to Spain to train privately rather than join Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia.

At the time, he spent several days at his former club’s facilities, prompting speculation about his future.

The listing was later removed when he returned to Tyneside.

However, the home is now empty again and officially back on the market with a local lettings agency.

Club insiders have told the publication that Isak personally chose to miss the July 19 friendly against Celtic, despite Eddie Howe publicly stating he had sent the striker home due to escalating transfer rumours.

Talks over a new contract were abandoned earlier this month, with Isak rejecting every subsequent approach from Newcastle to resume negotiations, insisting instead on a move away.

Liverpool were tipped to make an approach as far back as June 24, with their eventual £110m bid falling well short of Newcastle’s £150m asking price.

Howe has conceded the club cannot force Isak to change his mind but stressed the owners will not sanction a sale unless their valuation is met.

In the meantime, the Sweden international has been training alone in afternoon sessions at the Benton base.

Despite his stance that he will never play for the club again, Newcastle remain unwilling to approve his exit unless two new strikers are signed before the transfer window closes.

Efforts to bring in reinforcements have so far been frustrating, with the club seeing a £25m bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa rejected.

The Bees are holding out for closer to £40m.

Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund is one player now being linked, though Serie A giants AC Milan are also keen on the Denmark international.

Other targets, including Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, and Joao Pedro, have slipped through the net in what has been a troubled recruitment drive.

The saga has left Howe openly concerned about the strength of his squad ahead of their return to Champions League football.

The head coach admitted he does not expect Isak to feature in Saturday’s Premier League opener at Aston Villa, even if he is still on the books by then.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle star Alan Shearer has blasted his club's transfer window - admitting it's been 'disastrous'.

"So far, Newcastle's pre-season has been a nightmare. There is no other way of describing it," he said.

"They have had a disastrous transfer window, missing out on every one of their top targets they went for, and on top of that they have got Alexander Isak's situation hanging over them as they get ready for the opening weekend."
