The former Liverpool midfielder claimed Alan Sugar left Spurs in 'a complete mess'

Lord Alan Sugar has threatened legal action against Sky Sports and football pundit Jamie Redknapp following his explosive remarks about the business mogul's ten-year stewardship of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 78-year-old businessman announced his intention to pursue legal action after Redknapp characterised his decade-long chairmanship as leaving the north London club in disarray.

The dispute erupted on Saturday evening when Redknapp, while analysing former chairman Daniel Levy's recent departure from Spurs, suggested Sugar had left a chaotic legacy upon his 2001 exit from the same role.

Sugar responded furiously on social media platform X, declaring that both the 52-year-old pundit and the broadcaster would face contact from his legal representatives come Monday.

"Jamie Redknapp is a double barrel idiot," the former Spurs chairman wrote on X.

"He talks a load of rubbish. He said when Daniel Levy took over Spurs, Alan Sugar left the club in a right mess.

"He and SKY will be hearing from my lawyers Monday."

He then followed the post with a second, doubling down on his legal threat: "I am coming after you @MrJamieRedknapp idiot."

"You think back to Alan Sugar, how he left the club was a complete mess," Redknapp stated on air.

"Daniel Levy has left it in a really great way."

The pundit emphasised the stark contrast between the two chairmanships, crediting Levy with transforming Spurs into a financial powerhouse complete with a £1.2billion stadium and cutting-edge training facilities.

Redknapp made his observations alongside presenter Kelly Cates and Gianfranco Zola during Sky's Saturday coverage, which also featured Chelsea's encounter with Brentford.

Despite the off-pitch drama, Spurs delivered an impressive second-half performance.

Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring with a header before Tomas Soucek received his marching orders for a reckless challenge on Joao Palhinha.

Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven subsequently found the net, lifting Thomas Frank's side level with Arsenal on points.
