Lewis Hamilton's stance on new W15 revealed as F1 star features in testing ahead of new season

Toto Wolff has claimed both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are satisfied with the W15 as the new F1 season creeps closer.

Russell took part in testing on Wednesday, with his team-mate set to be on track all day today as he ramps up his preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Hamilton is a man currently in the spotlight having announced he will be leaving Mercedes for Ferrari next year.

He is, however, looking to end his stint with the Silver Arrows on a high by winning a record eighth Formula One title.

And Wolff has now revealed both Hamilton and Russell have provided positive feedback on the W15 prior to the opening race in Bahrain on March 2.

"The mood in the camp is positive," the Austrian said.

"We had a car [in 2023] that was a handful and difficult to understand sometimes why it was doing what it was doing.

"That has been the emphasis for this season to have a stable platform from we can actually develop onwards.

“Let's see if we have that. It's very difficult to say.

"We had a filming day yesterday and some aero running this morning, so not relevant lap times, but so far the feedback from the drivers was 'yeah, this is something we can work with' so that is encouraging."

Wolff was reportedly blindsided by Hamilton's sensational move to Ferrari.

But he insists the mood in the Mercedes camp is positive as the Briton prepares for his 12th and final season with the team.

“The morale of the team and dynamics we have had over the winter has been great," said the 52-year-old.

“We spent a lot of time trying to introspect and say ‘where is it that we can do better’ and what we see is an organisation that is really buzzing and is keen to to fight and develop a car that’s quicker while sticking to our mindset and into our values.

“It may have been awkward at the beginning of ‘how are we doing this for the rest of the season?’ but now everything has fallen into place and it’s just a concentration of the moment and the next races to come.”

Furthermore, Wolff shed light on Hamilton's exit and said it was something Mercedes 'didn't anticipate'.

“I think when the news broke clearly it’s a new situation,” he admitted.

“It’s something that we didn’t anticipate happening at that stage of the season, it is a new dynamic and that’s clearly something we have to work on.

“But having said that we’ve been together, spent some time in the factory and at various events and it’s absolutely fine on a human level. And it’s also professional in professional terms.

“We have a full season to go, we want to have the best competitive car, those drivers given the opportunity to do the best possible drives and how great would it be to finish on a high with Lewis this year and we’ve had several wonderful times and 10 more months to go on and give it all.”

Hamilton, meanwhile, opens up on his issues at Mercedes in the new series of Netflix's Drive to Survive.

And the 39-year-old has revealed the Silver Arrows told him he was 'wrong' when he complained about his car prior to last season.

“I remember complaining to the team and being like, look, we have to make these changes, otherwise this is the trajectory we’re going to go on and this is where we’re going to end up,” he said.

“Please, please do something about it.

“I remember they said, like, we know what we’re doing, you’re wrong.

"And that was definitely an interesting moment. I was like, okay, I’ll step back, don’t want to step on anybody’s toes.

"Then when we got into the season, then we spoke again [they said] ‘oh, maybe you were right'."
