England women's boss Sarina Wiegman explains what Alex Greenwood did after head injury in Belgium defeat

Lucy Bronze and Fran Kirby were both on target for Wiegman's side.

But a brace from Tessa Wullaert and an early goal from Laura De Neve consigned the World Cup finalists to a second defeat in four matches.

Greenwood was stretchered off during the first half of the match after a clash of heads.

The Manchester City defender collided with Belgium's Jassina Blom, with the match then stopping for a lengthy delay.

There were fears that Greenwood was badly hurt given the severe nature of the injury.

Yet Wiegman has now allayed fears over the condition of the 30-year-old and revealed the defender was able to walk.

"I haven't had a chance to talk to the medical staff yet," Wiegman told ITV Sport.

"We shall talk after the game. But she is alright.

"When she is walking, she is alright, so she is alright.

"But she had to go off and that is what everyone saw."

Greenwood was given oxygen while she received treatment, with Blom bandaged up by the Belgium medical staff.

As the veteran left the pitch she squeezed the hands of team-mates such as Millie Bright and Georgia Stanway.

England defender Lucy Bronze sent Greenwood a message of support following the incident.

"Yeah I mean it was just not nice to see her in pain," said the Barcelona star.

"But I've been told she is doing well and she is ok.

"Obviously when it is a head injury you can't take it lightly. The medical team were superb on the pitch, making sure she was safe.

"We just wish her a speedy recovery."

England's hopes of qualifying for the Olympics are now hanging by a thread after the defeat.

But Wiegman didn't appear too fazed and said after the game: "That's life, and so that's football too.

"So, we're not panicking or anything.

You could see that we were trying hard, we were trying to find the space and we were trying to have different crosses and play a possession game into the final third, but we just missed in the final perfect touch … although we did create chances to really score goals.”

On the result itself, she added: Very disappointed, we are frustrated too, I think this was unnecessary.

“What we wanted to do was to play better than Friday and we won Friday [1-0 in the reverse fixture].

“There were a couple of things we wanted to do better today, but in the end we were too sloppy.

"They had more counter-attacks than they did on Friday, so they did that well and I think we could have done better.

“It’s very tight … we can only do what we can do, so we know what we have to do.

"We play at Wembley [against the Netherlands], that’s always very exciting, so we’re looking forward to that."
