Wembley Stadium is set for a lucrative revamp ahead of Euro 2028.

England, along with the other home nations and the Republic of Ireland, are set to host the famous competition after their rivals dropped out of the running.

The new Wembley has been home to England ever since re-opening back in 2007 after seven years of work.

According to The Sun, the ground is now set for a revamp as the FA look to crack down on hooligans who marred the final of Euro 2020.

Back in 2021, many ticketless fans stormed the ground in order to watch England lock horns with Italy.

It is believed 2,000 individuals were able to secure access and terrifying footage was posted online.

Staff were overwhelmed and England ended up losing on penalties, with the atmosphere in the ground extremely hostile.

Fast-forward to now and it seems as though the Football Association are eager to learn from the experience.

It's claimed rings of steel complete with 12ft anti-climb fences will be erected.

They also plan on having 50 high-resolution cameras in order to keep pitch invaders out, too.

Staff will be trained better in order to prepare for any possible scenario.

And it's said barriers will include a new gated portal with enclosed roller shutters to 'fortify' the Club Wembley entrance.

A new external entrance lobby with reinforced interlocking doors will prevent hooligans from securing entry via the Olympic Steps.

Extra perimeter fences will be built, while stronger gates will be built in order to protect VIP, staff and media entrances.

A Wembley spokesperson is quoted as saying: “We’ve made significant investments to enhance security.”

Meanwhile, a final decision on the hosts of Euro 2028 will be announced on Tuesday.

The UK and Ireland originally ended a plan to be Europe's preferred candidate for the 2030 World Cup.

They feared stiff competition when it came to hosting that tournament, with Morocco, Spain and Portugal poised to host large parts of the tournament instead.

It is, however, still unclear if all five countries - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland - will be able to play by default.

It is 'unlikely' that UEFA would let all five automatically compete.

When it comes to stadiums that will host matches, 10 have been confirmed.

Wembley obviously makes the cut, with the famous arena expected to host the final.

Two are yet to be built, with Everton's Bramley-Moore Dock and Belfast's Casement Park still in development.

Manchester City's Etihad Stadium is set to be used, along with Newcastle's St James' Park.
