The 17-year-old missed out on a hat-trick in Birmingham on Thursday night

Luke Littler fans have expressed concerns after the teenager lost to Michael van Gerwen in the final of their Premier League clash on Thursday night.

The 17-year-old had gone into the event looking for a hat-trick following recent victories in Belfast and Manchester.

Yet while Littler was able to overcome Rob Cross and Luke Humphries, he missed out on another win due to Van Gerwen.

The Dutchman, whose form has dipped over the past few weeks, won their final showdown 6-3 to boost his chances of qualifying for the play-offs.

Some fans are worried about Littler, however, and have taken to social media to air their concerns.

"You looked a bit annoyed up there all night? Hope you are OK lad," said one user.

A second stated: "Everytime you get frustrated it can be seen on your face and even before throwing I can see if you will keep your composure or not."

A third said: "Didn’t seem your usual happy self tonight.

"Hope you can enjoy a chilled weekend amongst such a busy schedule."

A fourth wrote: "Littler looked sad tonight, not his usual happy self."

And a fifth opined: "Luke wasn’t interested looked bored."

While Littler was unable to win, he remains top of the Premier League table.

The youngster has 26 points to his name, two clear of Humphries in second.

Van Gerwen sits third, with 22, while Nathan Aspinall remains in the top four with 18.

Michael Smith, Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright make up the bottom half of the table.

Van Gerwen had, prior to the night's action, struggled for consistency over the past few weeks.

Yet the 34-year-old was pleased at his return to form and admitted he'd 'made things hard for himself'.

"It's about time, eh!?" he told Sky Sports.

"I've made it hard for myself to be fair. It is what it is.
