The darts star crushed Gian van Veen to defend his title on Saturday night

Luke Littler intends to treat himself to football trading cards after scooping the £1million prize at the World Darts Championship.

The 18-year-old sensation, known as The Nuke, retained darts' most lucrative title with a commanding 7-1 victory against Gian van Veen at Alexandra Palace on Saturday evening.

Sports card collecting has become one of the world No 1's favourite pastimes, a hobby he picked up through his YouTube friend Angry Ginge, winner of last year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Angry Ginge introduced Littler to Whatnot, a live-shopping platform where collectors can bid on trading card boxes in real time.

Littler revealed his enthusiasm for the hobby, saying: "I'm into football cards at the minute so I might have to treat myself to a few boxes. Just a few."

The Warrington star expressed interest in various brands, adding: "Panini cards, Topps cards, anything. It's Ginge's fault really, he got me into Whatnot."

He described how the platform operates, explaining: "You bid and they will open a box and then they say you get Cristiano Ronaldo, you get a Ronaldo card. I will treat myself to that."

The teenage champion clearly sees the card purchases as a modest reward following his dominant performance at Ally Pally, where he secured the sport's biggest prize.

Following his triumph, Littler will enjoy a week's rest at home with the Sid Waddell Trophy before heading to the Middle East for professional commitments.

The teenager then has back-to-back World Series of Darts events scheduled in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

After completing those tournaments, Littler plans to jet off to Dubai with his girlfriend Faith for a brief getaway.

The trip will mark a special occasion as the young champion celebrates his 19th birthday on January 21.

The Dubai holiday represents a chance for Littler to unwind after what has been a remarkable period, having secured the biggest prize in darts just weeks before reaching another personal milestone.

Littler currently sits on £2,770,500 in PDC ranking earnings, making him the first player to surpass the £2m threshold, with ambitions to reach £3m during 2026.

Despite his extraordinary success, the teenager remains determined to keep his feet on the ground.

"Obviously the money's there. I've said it before in the past, us as a family we've never had this sort of money," he said.

"So I'm not going to go and waste it. I'm not going to change."

His previous major purchase was a £39,000 BMW featuring a personalised registration plate, acquired after passing his theory test at the eighth attempt followed by his practical examination.

He has no plans to upgrade the vehicle, noting he needs a year on his insurance first.
