The world darts champion has got beef with the snooker legend

Darts champion Luke Humphries has responded sarcastically to snooker star Shaun Murphy's apparent nine-dart finish in his garage.

Murphy shared footage on social media, via Paddy Power, showing him throwing darts towards a board in a mirror.

Humphries took to Twitter with a dismissive reply, posting: "And I'll make a 147 next week," accompanied by side-eye and sighing emojis.

The exchange is the latest chapter in their ongoing dispute over whether achieving a nine-darter or snooker's maximum break is more difficult.

Murphy has previously claimed to be the only person in the world to achieve a remarkable sporting treble.

The snooker player says he has scored a maximum 147 break, thrown a nine-darter, and hit a hole-in-one in golf.

The debate between the two sportsmen came to a head at a recent promotional event where Humphries lined up alongside Michael van Gerwen.

Murphy and fellow snooker player Mark Williams were also present, leading to a heated exchange over the relative difficulty of their respective sporting achievements.

At the promotional event, Humphries argued that amateurs would find hitting a hole-in-one easiest, followed by a nine-darter, with a 147 being the most challenging.

However, he maintained that for professionals, achieving a nine-darter was more difficult than a maximum break in snooker.

Murphy and Williams responded with laughter to Humphries' assessment.

"I didn't know you were a comedian too," Murphy shouted across to Humphries.

Van Gerwen immediately jumped to his fellow darts player's defence, declaring: "No one was joking!"

Humphries defended his position, questioning: "What's funny about that? Did you hear what I said though? When you know all the angles..."

He pointed to statistical evidence to support his argument: "Stats show it too. In frames and legs of darts there are more 147s than nine-darters."

The debate appeared to swing in Murphy's favour when he proceeded to score a 147 break just 20 minutes after the exchange.

LATEST SPORT NEWS:

Humphries will not have the chance to extend his debate with Murphy at this year's World Darts Championship.

The Leeds-born star was eliminated in the fourth round by Peter Wright, ending his hopes of retaining the title.

The tournament continues with the semi-finals being played tonight.

The champion will be crowned in Friday's final at Alexandra Palace.
