The Nottinghamshire star has faced backlash for his verdict on India

England batter Ben Duckett has been criticised by two former captains after he claimed India are learning from Ben Stokes' team.

The opener said England should take some credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal's form but Nasser Hussain and Michael Vaughan have hit back.

Jaiswal is by far the leading run scorer in the series having hit his second double century in the mammoth win in Rajkot to take his tally to 545 in three matches.

The 22-year-old smashed a stunning unbeaten 214 in the second innings, hitting 12 sixes, to set up a huge target that the tourists got nowhere near.

Jaiswal hit 209 in the first innings of the second Test in Vizag after an impressive 80 in his first knock of the series in Hyderabad.

He has hit his runs at a strike rate of just over 81, often taking the game to the England team from ball one.

England have adopted an aggressive style of play dubbed Bazball in the last couple of years.

Duckett said at the weekend that the likes of Jaiswal have seemingly learned from their approach.

He said: "When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket.

"We saw it a bit in the summer and it’s quite exciting to see other players and other teams are also playing that aggressive style of cricket, added the English opener.

"He looks like a superstar in the making, unfortunately he's in some very good form at the moment. He's due a couple of low ones."

However, Duckett's comments have not gone down well with Hussain or Vaughan.

Hussain hit back by insisting that Jaiswal has learned from his upbringing in India and said England should instead be watching him for ways they can improve.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Cricket podcast, Hussain said: "The comment on Jaiswal that he has learned from us, I am going to touch on that.

"He has not learned from you, he has learned from his upbringing and all the hard yards he has put in while growing up, he has learned from the IPL. If anything, have a look at him and learn from him."

Hussain hopes that England are not so stuck in their ways that they cannot learn from their opponents.

He added: "So whatever they’re saying in public and in that dressing room, I hope they’re going back to their room and just a little bit of a self-introspection and going, yeah, I can look at that lad and learn from him. I can improve.

"Otherwise, it becomes a cult, doesn’t it? At times, Bazball and this regime has been described as a cult where you cannot criticise either within or externally.

"Even in this regime, there is room for learning and improving."

Vaughan also hit out at Duckett's comments and insists England must accept they are not always right.

He wrote in the Telegraph: "As a team, you are judged on series victories. Listen to them, and you would think nothing is ever wrong.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

"Jimmy Anderson said they would chase 600 in Vizag. Ben Duckett said 'the more the better' in terms of their target this week, but they fell 434 short.

"Duckett also reckons they deserve credit for the way Yashasvi Jaiswal is batting, as if no player in history has ever played an attacking shot.

"They talk about not playing for the draw, but to me that’s disrespectful to Test cricket.

"The draw is a crucial part of the game, and in five-Test contest has often provided the bedrock of some great series victories."
