A former county cricket coach has received a nine-month suspension

A former county cricket coach has received a nine-month suspension following sexual misconduct involving two female junior colleagues.

The Cricket Discipline Panel announced the ban on Wednesday after the coach admitted to five professional conduct violations.

The misconduct included transmitting unsolicited explicit photographs of his genitals to the women during 2023 and 2024.

The independent panel determined that the coach had engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour with staff members who held more junior positions within the county cricket club.

Six months of the suspension have been backdated to when charges were initially filed, with an additional three-month suspended sentence contingent on completing mandatory education requirements.

The panel's judgement revealed disturbing details about the coach's behaviour towards both women.

With the first victim, who had a known vulnerability, he sent explicit photographs including "a photo of his erect penis under clothing" despite her requests to cease contact.

The second woman, described as significantly younger and in a subordinate position, received an initial explicit photograph followed by two additional images days later.

The coach subsequently lured her to inspect changing facilities for rubbish, where he attempted to kiss her before she pulled away.

Both women were required to interact with the coach through their professional duties at the cricket club.

The Cricket Discipline Panel opted to keep the coach's identity confidential, citing exceptional health-related circumstances and potential serious harm if his name became public.

The panel's statement explained that disclosure posed significant risks to the individual's wellbeing.

Following the misconduct allegations, the county cricket club terminated the coach's employment.

He has remained absent from cricket roles since his dismissal and has been receiving psychological support through the Professional Cricketers Association, including months of psychotherapy.

This incident represents a separate case from another unnamed county coach who received a six-month suspension last November for inappropriate sexual conduct with a team player.

The panel's judgement emphasised the power imbalance between the coach and his victims, stating: "There was a clear imbalance in his favour given his superior employment position and because of his age.

"The conduct admitted by the Respondent has no place in modern society and no place in the cricket environment."

The judgement further declared: "Women who participate in cricket in any way must be able to do so in a safe and inclusive environment."

Chris Haward, managing director of the Cricket Regulator and former chief constable, confirmed that "removing sexual misconduct from the game is a priority for the Cricket Regulator".
