His wife Paris has now revealed the private reaction he gave to her as well as how she felt when learning of the news.
The mother-of-seven wrote on her Instagram story: "My full body was shaking with nerves when he showed me this cut because I wasn’t there with him.
"He sounded so p***ed off and disappointed, but this is boxing (a dangerous sport) and these things can happen."
The fight was set to be the first undisputed heavyweight clash since Lennox Lewis won all four belts in 1999.
Fans will now have to wait for Fury to recover and for a new date to be set.
Fury claimed he was in a great physical state before the freak accident.
He said in a statement: "I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition.
"I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.
"I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
The 35-year-old also posted a revealing picture on Instagram in just a pair of boxers, showing his leaner look.
He wrote: "Can't help getting injured in sparring. But what I can say was Usyk was in trouble I am in fantastic shape.

"You can quote me word for word for that. When the news was brought to Oleksandr, he just smiled. That is all he did.
"He is too mentally strong to break. I was waiting for this moment."
