The boxing icon quit the sport back in January

Tyson Fury has rejected a series of proposals to return to professional boxing, despite increasing speculation that the former two-time world heavyweight champion could be preparing for another high-profile comeback.

Fury, 37, announced his retirement in January after suffering two consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia.

Yet, as has often been the case throughout his career, Fury has shifted position more than once since then, engaging in training camps and public appearances that have hinted at a possible return, while also stating repeatedly that he has no desire to fight again.

The prospect of a blockbuster bout with Anthony Joshua continues to hover over the heavyweight division. Promoter Eddie Hearn has said on several occasions that he hopes to finally arrange a long-discussed contest between the British rivals next summer, a fight many supporters still see as the defining matchup of this era.

Fury and Joshua have exchanged public criticism for years, and there remains a sense of unfinished business in British boxing.

However, those close to Fury say he has shown no interest in accepting any of the offers that have been put in front of him.

Spencer Brown, who represents Fury, said his client has declined all recent proposals.

He stated that while Fury has been maintaining his conditioning and training frequently, he has made no commitment to compete again.

“All I can say is he’s been offered fights. He’s turned everything down at the moment,” Brown said.

“Tyson’s Tyson. All of a sudden, tomorrow, he might say I’m fighting again or he might say I’m never fighting again.

“That’s Tyson, that’s why we love him. He’s this mystery figure. Would I like to see him come back? Yeah, for selfish personal reasons.”

Fury himself gave a firm public statement last month, saying that no financial incentive could persuade him to lace up the gloves again.

He claimed that “not even £1billion” would be enough to draw him back into the ring, highlighting his belief that he has achieved all he ever hoped to in the sport.

Those remarks contrasted with comments made by his long-time promoter Frank Warren, who recently suggested that Fury had indicated a desire to resume his career in 2026.

Warren told Sky Sports that the pair still need to discuss the fine details before any announcement is made.

“He’s got to confirm it and sit down and work out when it’s going to be. If we do that then I’ll be delighted we can announce it,” Warren said.

“But he’s indicated to me and I know to a lot of people that he does want to carry on. So we’ll see.”

Warren also said that if Fury were to fight again, the contest that most interests him would be a third meeting with Usyk.

The two bouts between them were closely contested, technically complex contests that held the attention of the boxing world.

“The fight he really wants is another go with Mr. Usyk, he really wants that,” Warren said.

“And they were great fights, really close fights, to watch.

“I’d watch that again. That’s the fight he wants. That’s the one he talks about all the time.

“He hasn’t got a lot of miles on the clock. He knows what he’s got left.”

Fury’s career has been defined as much by unpredictability as by his achievements.

Whether his recent refusals are the final act or simply another pause remains unclear. Those around him appear prepared for either outcome, and the heavyweight division continues to wait for his next move.
