EXCLUSIVE: David Haye has opened up on the British boxing star

David Haye has admitted he feels Tyson Fury has taken his eye off the ball after it emerged the boxing star won't be able to fight until 2026.

The Gypsy King recently announced another retirement U-turn, with the heavyweight previously saying he'd quit the sport back in January.

However, it recently emerged that Fury wouldn't be able to fight this year because of a contractual agreement with Netflix.

The 36-year-old is working on a documentary and his promoter, Frank Warren, revealed the news in an interview with The Ring Magazine.

David Haye has admitted he feels Tyson Fury has taken his eye off the ball after it emerged the boxing star won't be able to fight until 2026

Speaking earlier this week, Warren said: “I spoke to him over the weekend very briefly.

"And he’s doing what he’s always doing, which is in the gym training.

“He’s not coming back this year because he has commitments on Netflix with the ‘At Home With The Furys 2’ and he’s doing a documentary also for Netflix.

"Then, after that, he will come back and we’ll discuss who he’s going to fight and so forth."

Now, speaking exclusively to GB News via Highbet, Haye has provided his verdict.

When asked if Fury had potentially taken his eye off the ball following his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December, the British star said: "It looks like it, yes.

"You have to keep relatively active and at his age, you can’t be out the ring for that long and then go in for a title fight against Usyk again or a fight against [Anthony] Joshua.

"I think it shows ambition now that he has had a brilliant career and after the last Usyk fight, if he wanted to fight again for a title, then he should have been active this year.

Tyson Fury hasn't fought since losing to Oleksandr Usyk for a second time back in December

"But now it’s not going to be then, it can be difficult to come back and go straight back in for a fight against another elite fighter."

For years, talk of a showdown between Fury and Anthony Joshua has rumbled on.

Fans have long wanted to see the two Britons battling it out for glory, only for things to never materialise.

GB News understands that Fury has verbally agreed to fight Joshua at some point in the future, with the financial details yet to be ironed out.

And Haye admits that the clash should have happened by now, with neither fighter in their 'prime'.

"It should have happened, it’s the fight everyone wants to see and now it should be what happens next," he added.

"Both fighters have two losses to Usyk, both aren’t getting any younger.

"Both have had long camps, fought many top fights, been world champion, and this can be the final clash for both of them that the public want to see.

Tyson Fury could still fight Anthony Joshua in the future

"Both not in their prime, but both still worthy champions in their prime and this fight can get everyone talking."

Haye was speaking ahead of Usyk's clash with Daniel Dubois, which is due to take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.
