The controversial showdown will take place in Texas on July 20

Mike Tyson is required to pass two 'tests' in order to fight Jake Paul in July.

The boxing icon is coming out of retirement to take on his 27-year-old opponent and will be 58 by the time the fight takes place.

Critics have condemned Tyson and Paul for agreeing to a showdown, with Netflix set to stream the bout to millions around the world.

However, while the clash has been announced, Tyson will need to pass two tests in order to step into the ring.

USA Today say fighters over the age of 36 are required to submit 'favourable results' from an electroencephalogram (EEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG).

An EEF is used to evaluate brain disorders, while an EKG is used to detect any heart problems.

Boxing chiefs could also request 'additional testing' if they believe it is appropriate.

Tyson last fought Roy Jones Jr back in 2020, with that fight ending in a split draw.

Yet Paul will be a different challenge entirely, especially given his young age.

While the American is divisive, there's no denying he's made a stellar start to his boxing career.

The YouTuber, who previously appeared on the Disney Channel, has won nine of his 10 bouts so far.

His defeat to Tommy Fury in February last year remains the only time he's failed to come out on top.

Jones Jr, meanwhile, has claimed he's heard the fight between Tyson and Paul won't be an exhibition match, insisting it's been 'upgraded'.

There have been conflicting reports over whether it will be a professional or exhibition showdown instead.

But Jones Jr claims he's 'heard' it will be the former.

“The Jake Paul Mike Tyson fight is not an exhibition, I’ve heard it’s been upgraded to a fight," he told The Lunch Club.

The 55-year-old also insists Tyson can't be taken lightly despite the fact he'll be 58 by the time the fight takes place.

"If it’s a fight, it’s very intriguing how it may turn out because Jake Paul has gotten a lot better as a boxer over the days but Mike Tyson even at 58 or however old he is, is still Mike Tyson," he added.

"When I boxed him, he still punched like Mike Tyson.

"If he hits anybody square on the chin it’s going to be problematic, I don’t care who it is.

"I like Jake Paul, he’s a good guy and he’s doing good with his boxing stuff.

"I think it’s a good promotional situation for him and Mike, they should go really good numbers especially having upgraded to a real fight.

"If Mike comes out and does what Mike normally does, then it’s going to be a tough situation for Jake.

"If Jake can stay away from him for four or five rounds, then Jake has a chance but he’s going to have to do a lot of manoeuvring to stay away from him."
