The American will face Anthony Joshua in Miami next month in a controversial boxing fight

Jake Paul's mother is absolutely terrified about her son stepping into the ring with Anthony Joshua next month.

The YouTube star turned boxer shared footage of Pam Stepnick's horrified response when he broke the news about the Miami showdown on 19 December.

The video captures the moment Paul revealed his plans to face the former two-time heavyweight champion in a professionally sanctioned eight-round bout.

Stepnick's immediate reaction speaks volumes about the genuine danger many believe Paul faces.

The clash at Miami's Kaseya Center will stream live on Netflix, marking Paul's most challenging opponent to date.

At 6ft 6in, Joshua presents a completely different threat level compared to anyone the 28-year-old American has previously encountered.

When Paul asked his mother if she was scared about the upcoming fight, her response was crystal clear. "No... I'm terrified," Stepnick told her son in the footage he shared.

Her initial reaction was equally dramatic. "No. Oh no, are you crazy?" she exclaimed upon hearing about the Joshua bout.

The video formed part of Paul's YouTube content titled "This is what you wanted", where he documented various family members' shocked responses to his decision. His father and brother Logan Paul also appeared stunned by the announcement.

Paul filmed himself reading through potential opponents on pieces of paper before landing on Joshua's name, then addressing viewers directly about how the opportunity materialised.

The boxing world has expressed serious concerns about this match-up, and it's easy to see why. Joshua brings Olympic gold medal credentials and has battled elite heavyweight contenders throughout his career.

Paul's five years as a professional boxer pale in comparison. His only previous heavyweight outing came against Mike Tyson last year, though critics noted he faced a diminished version of the boxing legend.

The Watford-born Joshua hasn't competed since Daniel Dubois defeated him in September 2024.

Despite this recent inactivity, the 36-year-old's knockout power and vast experience against top-tier opposition give him clear advantages.

Paul himself acknowledged Joshua's achievements, noting that whilst the Brit was winning Olympic gold, he was "filming Vines in high school".

The financial rewards appear to have outweighed any safety concerns, with both fighters set to pocket £70 million each from this controversial bout.

It's a staggering payday that explains why Paul is willing to enter what he calls "the lion's den".

The Netflix broadcast deal ensures massive global viewership for what many consider Paul's most dangerous career move.

Despite widespread fears about the mismatch in experience and power, the fight remains professionally sanctioned.

Paul mentioned in his video that promoter Eddie Hearn didn't believe he would ever take this fight. The pair have history, including Hearn's attempted lawsuit against Paul in 2022 and clashes during the Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano trilogy.
