Boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has been deported from the US, just weeks after a blockbuster bout in Los Angeles.
The former WBC middleweight champion was deported to his native Mexico on Monday, where he is expected to face charges under Mexican law.
The 39-year-old has been arrested in connection with allegedly dealing arms, drug-trafficking and organised crime, and is said to have cartel links.

He is currently being held in a prison in Sonora, Mexico.

Chavez Jr, the son of legendary fighter Julio Cesar Chavez, was arrested in July, just days after his blockbuster bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
The boxer was believed to be in the US illegally after allegedly overstaying his visa.
The deportation was confirmed by US Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson in a post on social Media, showing Chavez Jr in handcuffs.

“DHS Government deported Julio César Chávez Jr. to Mexican authorities to face charges in accordance with his country's justice system,” the post read.
“This action reflects the strong cooperation between our governments, demonstrating that collaboration yields results and strengthens the security of both nations.”
The boxer is then believed to have been arrested around a checkpoint in the border city of Nogales on Tuesday morning.

The 39-year-old’s lawyer and family have rejected the accusation that he has cartel connections.
His recent bout with Paul went the distance, with the American winning on points.
After the match, Chavez Jr took to social media to express his frustrations with the result.

"I could never knock him out. I couldn’t knock out Jake Paul,” he wrote.
"Whoever the judges want, wins. I put on a great show and well, I hit him in the ass like I said I was going to.
"He said he was gonna drive me crazy, no, no. Here I am ready for what’s next, thank you everyone."
Despite the comments, Chavez Jr landed just nine punches in the opening five rounds of the contest compared to Paul’s 68.
The loss marked his seventh of an esteemed career within the ring.
