Zara Tindall impressed fans with a clever accessory at her first ever garden party.

Prince William invited his cousins Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Peter Phillips and Zara to a Buckingham Palace garden party on Tuesday.

However, the damp London weather meant Zara needed some extra accessories to protect her suede Emmy London shoes.

While many of the royals and attendees held umbrellas to shield themselves from rain during the event, Zara, 43, added an unexpected piece to her pink shoes.

King Charles's niece wore clear, protective stoppers on her heels to prevent them from sinking into the wet grass so she could mingle with guests.

One fan wrote on social media: "I am in awe!" Meanwhile, another said: "Zara's high heel trick is calling my name."

Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022, said the weather "can be a bit of a worry" when it comes to throwing garden parties at the royal residences.

In 2019, the late monarch said: "Well, you do rather hope the sun shines as when you invite 8,000 people to have tea on your lawn."

The Royal Family is known for clever fashion tricks.

Princess Kate is known to wear bodysuits to create a smooth silhouette while the late monarch had curtain weights sewn into the hems of her dresses to prevent a wardrobe malfunction on a windy day.

Zara looked stunning at the Buckingham Palace garden party, wearing a designer dress from Laura Green worth £1,500. She accessorised with a £395 Emmy London clutch bag and matching £495 shoes.

Princess Anne's daughter also wore a Sarah Cant boater hat in a pretty pink shade, which retails for £900.

The gathering of King Charles's nieces and nephews was a rare royal event.

Only Prince William is a working member of the Royal Family, while Beatrice, Eugenie, Peter and Zara have private jobs.

Not in attendance at the garden party were the two youngest royal cousins, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, who is studying at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, and James, Earl of Wessex, 16.

Prince Harry, who moved to California in 2020 with Meghan Markle after they stepped back as working members of the Royal Family, also was not present.
